The main characters are written relatively straight, with new protagonist Nick Ramos portrayed as an affable but nondescript everyman, but this certainly isn’t the transformation into a grim and gritty horror game that some feared. When first unveiled there seemed to be an attempt to give Dead Rising 3 a more serious tone, but happily that’s not really the case in practise. It’s about killing thousands upon thousands of zombies in the most inventive way possible, ideally while wearing as many ridiculous items of clothing as possible. What remains is still the same basic premise though: an open world zombie game where you must, well… the end goal is simply to escape the city but Dead Rising isn’t really about plot or even story missions.
